EcoChem is the European market leader in the development, production and marketing of eco-friendly flame-retardant additives for timber and wood-based panels: Particle boards, MDF boards, OSB & Plywood. The method to produce a fire-retardant wood-based panel is the homogeneous mass-incorporation of our flame retardant additives during the production of the board. Our fire protection products are added in dry or liquid format during the manufacturing process. The Ecochem flame-retardants are halogen-free.

Fire Retardant Wood Panel applications

Wood is nature's most all-round building material. It has excellent mechanical properties; it is renewable, sustainable, energy efficient, easily workable, and aesthetically pleasing.  However, untreated wood-based panels are flammable which makes them less attractive with regard to fire safety! Treating wood panels with the correct type of flame retardant formula can overcome this disadvantage allowing a wide range of fire retardant wood products to compete with other building materials (such as plaster boards). The main applications of FR wood based panels as we know them today: Internal walls, ceilings, roof constructions and furniture in public buildings (such as hotels, airports, offices, hospitals, exhibition halls, theatres, schools etc …).

Fire Protected MDF & HDF Wood Panels

Every MDF or HDF production line is unique and requires a tailor-made method to achieve the targeted ‘Flame Retardant Standards’. EcoChem’s general method consists of the in-line dosage of liquid flame retardant additives to the wood fibres during the production of the board. With our unique technology, Fireproof MDF boards can be manufactured at a similar line-speed as the standard boards. EcoChem offers the world’s most complete range of different fire-retardants for wood products. The determination of the additive which best answers the customer’s requirements can only be done based on individual communication between our companies. The chemical composition of our flame retardant additives for wood panels is selected from an ecological perspective. We use only halogen-free substances in our formulas. We sell products to produce fire retardant MDF boards & HDF boards in accordance with all the local country standards including the harmonised European standard EN 13501 Class B / C and the US Standard ASTM E84 Class 1 / Class A (Steiner Tunnel Test).

Fire Protected OSB Wood Panels (Oriented Strandboards)

Every OSB production line is unique and requires a tailor-made method to achieve the targeted ‘Flame Retardant Standards’. EcoChem’s general method consists of the in-line dosage of liquid flame retardant additives to the wood flakes during the production of the board. With our unique technology, FR OSB panels can be manufactured in high-speed continuous press systems. We sell products to produce fire retardant OSB boards in accordance with all the local country standards including the harmonised European standard EN 13501 Class B / C and the US Standard ASTM E84 Class 1 / Class A (Steiner Tunnel Test).

Fire Protected Particle Board – Chipboard

Every chipboard production line is unique and requires a tailor-made method to achieve the targeted ‘Flame Retardant Standards’. EcoChem’s general method consists of the in-line dosage of flame retardant additives to the wood chips during the production of the board. Our chemicals are characterised by an adjusted particle size distribution. EcoChem offers the world’s most complete range of different fire-retardants for wood products. The determination of the additive which best answers our customer’s requirements can only be done based on individual communication between our companies. The chemical composition of our flame retardant additives for wood panels is selected from an ecological perspective. We use only halogen-free substances in our formulas. We sell products to produce fire retardant chipboards in accordance with all the local country standards including the harmonised European standard EN 13501 Class B / C and the US Standard ASTM E84 Class 1 / Class A (Steiner Tunnel Test).

Fire Protected Plywood Panels

Every Plywood production line is unique and requires a tailor-made method to achieve the targeted ‘Flame Retardant Standards’. EcoChem’s general method consists of impregnation of the individual wood veneers by using liquid flame retardant additives. The impregnation of the veneers can be done under boiler pressure (Autoclave process) or in a standard dipping process. EcoChem offers the world’s most complete range of different fire-retardants for wood products. The determination of the additive which best answers your requirements can only be done based on individual communication between our companies. With our unique technology, Fireproof Plywood boards can be manufactured without discoloration. The chemical composition of our flame retardant additives for wood panels is selected from an ecological perspective. We use only halogen-free substances in our formulas. We sell products to produce fire retardant plywood panels in accordance with all the local country standards including the harmonised European standard EN 13501 Class B / C and the US Standard ASTM E84 Class 1 / Class A (Steiner Tunnel Test)
